I bought the Gerber Method at my local Di¢k's store a few weeks back. Compared with the Leatherman, the Gerber seemed like a bargain. I could get more tools for about half the price of the Leatherman plus a lifetime warranty. But I soon began to notice the difference in quality. First, the tools on one side of the set were impossible to unfold without using another tool to pry them open. I understand that I could have loosened the hinges with a hex screwdriver, but I expected it to work properly from the beginning. Then after just a few uses, the spring mechanism on the scissors bent so that the blades get stuck in the closed position and have to be manually pried open.
I'm going to Di¢k's today to exchange for a Leatherman.
